Sidewood

Wines from the Adelaide Hills

Sidewood is a privately owned vineyard, nestled in the cool climate region of the Adelaide Hills. This boutique 300 acre property with fresh, crisp clean air and ancient gravelly soils has been owned by Owen and Cassandra Inglis since 2004. The original vines were planted in 2000, and with 130 acres under vine, they are one of the largest single vineyards in the region.

The wines are made by renowned female winemaker Tash Mooney, owner of Barossa based Fox Gordon wines, who earned her reputation making premium wines at Penfolds, Lindemanns and Barossa Valley Estate, including the iconic E&E Black Pepper Shiraz.

The unique Sidewood Estate vineyard terroir, combined with meticulous viticultural management, ensures vibrant fruit flavours with outstanding intensity and fresh natural acidity. The grapes also enjoy a slow, extended ripening period before hand-picking.

Sidewood Estate wines are distinguished by vivacious, fruit-driven flavours, intensity, balance and structure.

The Wines

Sidewood Pinot Gris 2009 Sidewood Pinot Gris 2009
On the nose, floral with orange blossom. Lychee and guava fruit on the palate, a touch of sweetness and crisp acidity. This Pinot Gris has length and a real mineral, earthy character straight from the cool climate Sidewood vineyard. Full and rounded, it drinks brilliantly with seafood.
Sidewood Shiraz 2007 Sidewood Reserve Shiraz 2008
The raspberry and dark red plum fruit flavours coupled with must sticks and cinnamon aromas make for a very alluring Syrah. The depth of the fruit flavours are owed to the gentle crushing of the Syrah grapes to ensure that 10% of the berries were left whole during fermentation. The sweetness of the fruit in this wine would suit sweeter sauced dishes such as duck and plum sauce.
Sidewood Sauvignon Blanc 2009 Sidewood Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Lime, and passion fruit aromas and mineral finesse. Cool climate vineyards produce wines with natural acidity and minerality on the palate. This wine has all of that combined with mouth filling lime juice and passion fruit flavours. Drink with oysters, or try Sashimi or fresh sardines on crusty white bread.
Sidewood Chardonnay 2009 Sidewood Chardonnay 2009
Aromas of white peach and apricot with nutmeg and spice. A rounded and full fruited pallet, very peachy flavours from the cool climate vineyards and a complexity of honey and nutmeg. Drink with snapper or Atlantic salmon. The creaminess of this chardonnay also goes perfectly with cheese dishes such as goats cheese souffle.
