Sidewood Estate, The Drinks Business, September 2011
Owen Inglis, Owner of Sidewood Estate ‘While 2011 was probably the most difficult vintage in many of Australia’s regions, the better managed vineyards that had pruned back vines to provide lower yielding, higher quality fruit early in the year, had some of the best wine they had seen for many years.
There may well be a considerable discernable quality difference between the premium quality producers and the low cost producers this year, which to my mind will only serve to strengthen the position of the premium producers who have for sometime been struggling with the low priced image that has been pervading about the Australian wine industry.
It is my own hope that the importers and distributors of Australia’s wines will this year be tasting our wines carefully and in doing so will give the credit and pay the prices that it costs us to produce the finest quality wines’.
